The IT secretary said that the development of local smart meters will enhance efficiency in metering, reduce power consumption.
Gadgets and IT secretary Alkesh Kumar Sharma on Tuesday said that the creation of semiconductors in the nation will begin very soon.
He was answering an inquiry around strategy of the Service of Gadgets and IT after state-possessed organization Energy Productivity Administrations Restricted (EESL) raised the issue of deficiency of electronic chip and printed circuit board (PCB or motherboard) frustrating homegrown creation of electric meters.
"India will be one of those main 6-7 accomplices which will have semiconductor producing. It will happen very soon," Sharma said.
Talking at a gathering on innovation move by C-DAC, Thiruvananthapuram for nearby assembling of shrewd meters and electric chargers, Sharma said Meity has taken lead in innovation improvement, be it electronic or car area, man-made brainpower.
"We have taken a lead with regards to the environmental change drive. One major part is the shift towards green innovation, and EV is a significant mission in that. Request is expanding. We really want 5,000 chargers at present in the main 20 urban areas of India. Child for EV will give enormous advantage to the country," he said.

Sharma said that the improvement of neighborhood savvy meters will upgrade proficiency in metering, lessen power utilization, individuals will get right bills and advantage power circulation organizations.
A senior authority from EESL said that it is a transient stage from traditional savvy meters to computerized shrewd meters.
"As on date we are confronting difficulties like equipment parts, chips and PCBs (printed circuit board) are not accessible in view of which we as a whole need to rely upon various nations. On account of C-DAC for creating native innovation, we will have our own assembling. Our own country PCB ought to be there," the official said.
